"Light UP Lives Charity"
A choral ensemble of over 100 students from UCSI University’s School of Music got together on the night of 19th October 2009 to perform both traditional and contemporary choral literature of the highest standards. A melodic tapestry of magnificent choral masterpieces featuring world renowned composers such as John Rutter and Iain Grandage is what best describes the recent choir concert.
The music students, both juniors and seniors were able to perform the repertoire with distinction after weeks of disciplined, rigorous rehearsals. This artistic yet demanding choir concert is also part of the students’ final assessment for the choir subject. Through this concert, students are given insight and practical experience of stage performance in front of a huge wave of audience. The Recital Hall was crowded with delighted audiences who thundered the hall with supportive claps.
The choir performed a diverse ensemble of choral literature ranging from a Japanese celebrated children song, “Hotaru Koi” to traditional Spanish carol, “Fum Fum Fum” and amusingly, George Frederick Handel’s Christmas carol “Let the Whole Earth Stand in Awe”was performed too. Among the 10 songs performed, Rutter’s “Requiem Aeternam” and Grandage’s “Three Australian Bush Songs – Dawn, Birds and Sunsets” were easily noted as two of the best choral literatures presented.
This breathtaking choir concert was conducted by Mr. Ian Lim, the renowned international multiple award winning Music Director of Malaysia Dithyrambic Singers.
