Lightening fast moves
The competition which was slated for 6pm began 30 minutes earlier as the judges had arrived earlier and the hall was already packed. The event kicked off with the crowd cheering in excitement when teams took the stage.
It was a contend of various genres of dance ranging from hip hop, pop to contemporary dance. Seven teams from two prominent universities in Kuala Lumpur – Help University and UCSI University competed. Several other teams from Nottingham University and Apiit College who were supposed to compete didn’t make it due to miscommunication.
Help University, who organized the event, had five teams while UCSI University had Freak Nation and G.girls. This is the second time the university has coordinated this event, last May being the inaugural.

G girls
Freak Nation which was formerly known as UCSI hip hop class is one of the fastest growing dance team in a short period of two years. According to Ben Udofia, Freak Nation’s team leader, “It is not just about the dance, it’s about respect and love“. It all began with the team’s hype and enthusiasm for dance and setting high standards they are set to attain as a team.
And from the look of things, Freak Nation is certain to reach greater heights. What more with a slogan like, “Never loose hope, be determined and go for what you want – persistently”.
In a nutshell, the perseverance and discipline this group exhibits is what has made the team champions and has brought the team oneness while carrying the University’s name.
At the closing of the competition, Freak Nation was presented with a trophy as champions of Legacy 2010 while the second runner-up, The Newbies from Help University and the third runner-up, The Indiana’s also from Help University were both presented with various consolation prizes.
