Ideation towards innovation

With the theme Ideation towards Innovation, the Finale of UCSIU Bizplan saw Team Be Leaf comprising of Tan Lee Ngar, Lye Phui Yan and Tan Huey Ghee emerged the winner with an Aquaculture Hatchery System.

In the product category, the first prize went to the Transformer who developed a product that could harvest touch energy in mobile phones. Foo Dun Fei, Ng Shing Leng and Charles Teh comprised this team.

Winners received a cash prize of RM500, with the chance to win the RM50, 000 research seed fund from the University’s Centre of Excellence for Research, Value Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CERVIE).

The service category first runner up was D’Amore, from a Food Science and Nutrition student, Yau Le Si who developed a natural beauty lotion created from natural industrial wastes. The product category runner ups saw team Varinderjit, made up of Ngan Kok Yew, Sajid Ahmed and Varinderjit Singh who developed a healthy food kiosk that provides fast, affordable and fresh takeaway foods. Runner ups won RM300.

The competition which kicked off on 15th of September with a series of workshops, helped groom contenders not just to win but also for their future career endeavors. Being the first ever UCSIU Bizplan competition organized by the University, it was no doubt a motivational competition in the intellect as it allowed students to showcase their business plans as well as propose future projects for their various careers.

The event began with a closed session of final presentations from the seven finalists. The judging was done by internal and external parties, namely from Adastra Intellectual Property Sdn. Bhd., Cemporium Sdn. Bhd., CPA Australia, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and Bank Negara Malaysia.

UCSI U’S Vice Chancellor, Dr Robert Bong believes that entrepreneurship is the aptitude that can be reflected through interesting ideas as well as artistic skills. He also applauded the Organizing Chairman, Ms Sharinaz Ismail and the committee for a well structured platform to enable visionary ideas in the realm of the business world.

Given the success of this inaugural completion, the UCSIU Bizplan Competition will be an annual feature to give opportunities and to expose other students to entrepreneurship and competitive strategies of pitching ideas.
