Connections

Hey Everyone! Welcome to our very own on-line newspaper – Frontiers, a university project brought to you by our Journalism majors from the BA (Hons) in Mass Communications.

In the second half of this year, we did coverage for a huge array of everything.

We shared thoughts and ideas on central issues. In Highlights we talked about how to Dream big and dare to fail, Movie Remakes: The latest trend to hit the big screen, A show of force by Israel?, while celebrating the many journalists that have put their lives on the line for a story in Kudos Malaysian Journalists!

Farezza Rashid also reminisces A Year Without Yasmin and her works while Shaun Lee talks about Break the Wall… and the Memories Down of Pudu Jail. Baby dumping was another issue we brought forward in Another day, another innocent casualty and on a more serious note we see what Merdeka means today and if it is a Celebration for the right reasons?

We contribute our insights on yet different fundamental but key nation issues on Rethinking the education system? with the latest idea to abolish the UPSR and PMR exam, the thorny relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia in Malaysia and Indonesia bilateral ties forum and the recent bus accidents and causalities because If someone needs to die to prove a point, so many have.

In Happenings we covered events on and off campus. On campus, we attended the 2nd Diversity in Higher Education Teaching Symposium, Congratulations and Celebrations! were in high order for the 23rd UCSI University convocation and Malaysian Universities Sign Campus Security MoU for universities.

Falila Kurfi also celebrated fellow friends during Awards Day to see A testimony of success for quest and knowledge while Patrick Tari attended the TEDxUCSI: Ideas to transform Malaysia. Farezza Rashid also took a look at Molding Malaysian Youth through UCSIU Bizplan Competition 2010’s series of workshops.

Away for uni, we went around town scouting the Ramadan bazaars: Unnecessary extravagance? We also attended the Asian Bloggers and Social Media Conference 2010 where former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad advised the blogging community to Blog responsibly and always tell the truth – Tun M

In Leisure & Lifestyle we went to the movies, exhibitions, concerts, read books and simply ate.

Movies: We make our own destiny by the sands of time in Prince of Persia, A Labyrinth of Fear – Shutter Island, Mind Messing Inception, The Last Airbender – Visual Treat!, Third dimensional dancers and zombies in Step Up and Resident Evil: Afterlife and RED – Retired Extremely Dangerous
which was a good popcorn movie!

Exhibitions: Increase Climate Earth Animals Glacier Extinction = ICE AGE, Yasmin – In Her Own Wordsa Celebration of Humanity and Universal Love and Amir Muhammad talks about 120 Malay Movies

Concerts: Engelbert Humperdinck’s ‘Legacy of Love’

Food analysis: Singing with Chef Ismail at Rebung, Bread – Iranian style and a taste of Lebanese cuisine at the Al Rawsha. Middle Eastern cuisine anyone?

Books: Increase Climate Earth Animals Glacier Extinction = ICE AGE, By the River Piedra I sat down and wept, “Love is a trap. When it appears, we see only its light, not its shadows”, Unknotting the mysteries of Un Lun Dun and New Malaysian Essays.

In Talk to Us, Sashareen Omar tells how Creating awareness with public campaigns benefitted her and her friends. We also featured our budding reporters from the Media Writing Skills class - Lee Choon Fai with Reporter spills her beans, Eda Othman wrote about Not Perceived Quality, but Breadth of Sources and Loh Lai Kuen penned Make a Difference Through the Power of Journalism.
