"The Road to Menara Gading and Back"
Recently, the events held by School of Nursing marked a big milestone for them as two major events were being held all at once: the hand over of the donation collected by the Student Nursing Association (SNA) during last year’s Pink October to Dr Ednin Hamzah, CEO of Hospice Malaysia; and the launching of UCSIU’s lecturer from School of Nursing, Mr Arnel Banaga Salgado’s book titled “Psychology for Nurses”.

Dr Ednin receiving the cheque
The event started off with a brief speech by Dr Ednin titled The Development of Palliative Care in Malaysia. In his slides, Dr Ednin captured the attention of all the nursing students present in the Auditorium as he explained the history of how the first Palliative Care in Malaysia was first recognized in the year 1995 and developed into over more than 20 Palliative Cares throughout Malaysia today.
As Dr Ednin said: “Compassion is more than anything else”, no doubt indeed the students of the SNA managed to show the community the true meaning of being nurses when they organized a charity donation for Hospice Malaysia by selling pink ribbons ONLY, last year October. The donation was done in collaboration with the Pink October Month - the month for supporting breast cancer.
After the presentation, Dr Ednin was then presented with the donation collected in the form of a cheque amounting RM1, 200 and a gift of appreciation for delivering his speech.

Official launching of Dr Anal's book
The second highlight of the event came when Dr Anal was invited to the stage to explain about his newly published book: Psychology for Nurses, and later proceed to join in officiating the launching of his book. Psychology for Nurses was published by McGraw-Hill and is available at the market for RM33.90.
The book serves as a good reference for nursing students who are taking diploma and degree programme. It also serves as a guide for registered nurses (RN) who would like to enhance their nursing skills and knowledge.
Students from the School of Nursing brought a close to the event as they presented traditional dances from each of the three major races in Malaysia: Chinese, Malay and Indian.
