"Light UP Lives Charity"

October was a busy month for clubs and societies in UCSI University. It was a whole week of activities and advertising to boost the society’s image or just to raise funds for the clubs.
Frontiers picked up on two such events that happened simotansly from 5th – 8th October. The English Language Society (ELS) organized an English Language Week, to boost up their graduates’ English proficiency.
Interesting activities such as ‘And So We Hunt’ treasure hunt, ‘X and Tell’ quiz, essay competitions were arranged by the committee. Fabulous performances by THE HIVE , break dance performance by a group called ‘Untitled’, Djezna’s Stalker and solo performances by Ahmad Nahri and Wangster were also displayed throughout the week.
According to Cherish Low, the event organizer and president of the society, “We are looking forward to organize this event again with the collaboration of other clubs in future so that we can learn from each other so the bond between the clubs can be established.”
While that was going on, the Peer Counseling Group, Psychology Club and the Student Development and Counseling Unit organized the 2nd Annual Mental Health Week. The event was simply themed C.H.E.C.K. Your Mind, short for Challenge, Hasten, Explore, Conquer and Knowledge.
The event which was held in conjunction with the World Mental Health Day on 10th October was officiated by the President of Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA), Datin Dr. Ang Kim Ten. In attendance were Vice President of Student Affairs, Mr Moses Ling, Student Affairs Director, Ms Ooi Pei Boon and the Dean of Faculty of Music, Social Sciences and Design, Dr Irene Tan.

Among the games that were set up for the week were Amazing Race, card building, Illusion, Alcatraz and the Egg Splat. Students and staffs also had the opportunity to take part in workshops such as Hypnotherapy Workshop, Psychodrama Workshop and OH Card Workshop. The exhibitions proved to be an eye opener to educate the UCSI University community on Sleeping Disorder-Insomnia, Stress, Depression and Mental Health.
The Malaysian Mental Health Association also had a booth set up during the event to provide mental health screening and consultation services for the public.
