UCSI University played hosts to the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) and Malaysia Association of Private Collage and Universities (MAPCU) for the memorandum of understanding signing on promoting campus security in Malaysian universities.
MAPCU and MCPR have come a long way in promoting campus safety and this MOU signing ceremony was to renew and further strengthen the understanding that was first agreed upon in January, 2007.
In his speech, Datuk Dr. Parmjit Singh, the President of MAPCU emphasized their determination and commitment to reduce crime and criminal activities in higher institutions. ”Crime occurs anywhere although our students are in a safe environment. All private institutions should continue to work and implement measures to stop crime including crimes through social networks like Facebook, Twitter etc. Safety shouldn’t be taken for granted even when off campus”.
The Vice Chairman of MCPF, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye also stressed the need for the government and community, including students to work together to help reduce crimes to a minimal level. He also reported that measures were taken to assign more police in the country to make our educational institutions safe.
The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Dr Hou Kok Chu who witnessed the signing ceremony at the UCSI University North Wing Campus, advised students to report crime. Private institutions must contribute in enlightening the students through crime prevention programmes, to encourage victims to make reports and provide feedback to the police so crime can be reduced and eventually eradicated.
