Good news for UCSI 3D Animation Design students! The new computer-equipped 3D Animation Lab is officially open!

Student sharing ideas with Dato' Peter Ng
On 5th March 2010, UCSI Group President Dato’ Peter Ng launched the new lab. In his speech, he used the blockbuster hit movie, Avatar, as an example to encourage students to put in more effort in order to achieve greater heights in the field of 3D animation.
The launch of the new lab also showcased 3D animation artwork and models done by the design students. They also shared their ideas and thoughts about their designs with Dato’ Peter Ng during the walkabout.
Next up was ‘The Making of Quest Land’ presentation in the lab, which was prepared by School of Creative Arts. The creative and quirky presentation was mainly to display the works which were 3D animated cartoons designed to represent Dato’ Peter Ng, Professor Dr. Lee Chai Buan, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Irene Tan Ai Lian, Dean of Faculty of Music, Social Sciences and Design and the lecturers from the School of Creative Arts.

Speech by Dato' Peter Ng
“We have a good crowd from the university and the industry in the launch. The whole idea is to create awareness because internally, many people do not know there is a design school in UCSI University that actually offers a 3D Animation Design programme,” said Mr. M.Y. Teh, Associate Dean of Faculty of Music, Social Sciences and Design.
According to Chan Kar Munn, one of the 3D Animation Design students whose artwork was showcased in the launch, the lab facilities, such as computers with internet access, scanners, printers, audio system and light box are good for students to render their work. Lecturers could also lecture better with the new state of the art facilities.
With the well-equipped 3D Animation Lab, it is hoped that the 3D Animation Design students will achievement a higher level in their artwork in order to gain more attention and recognition from the animation industry in Malaysia and on the global front.
