The Sony World Photography Awards Global Tour 2009/2010 exhibition’s was hosted by Galeri Petronas and was the first of its kind in Kuala Lumpur this year.

Guests attended the opening of Sony World Photography Awards

It showcased photographs by winners and finalists for 2009, displaying different genres of photographs including fashion, architecture, advertising, sport and music from across the world. It is an annual competition sponsored by Sony, and its aim is to create an international platform for emerging photographers to be discovered and for professionals to showcase their latest work.

This exhibition is also aimed to enhance photography knowledge and skills, as well as to arouse photography interest among Malaysians, young and old alike.

Mr. Masaki Matsumae, General Manager, Product Marketing Division of Sony Malaysia, Cecily Breese, Global Tour & Events Manager World Photography Organization, together with Puan Hajjah Hartini Haji Abdullah, Director of Galeri Petronas attended the opening of Sony World Photography Awards Global Tour 2009/2010  exhibition.

Vincent Foong, the Overall Amateur Winner of Sony World Photography Awards 2009, was invited to attend the official opening. With more than 30 years of experience in normal and underwater photography, he still studies digital cameras to keep abreast with the best and latest gadgets around.

“I’ve travelled to Alaska, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to take photographs, and yet Malaysia is still the best place, and it’s just next to my hometown,” added Foong who hails from Singapore.

4333001_2794234c_5605“This year, 120 universities registered to participate in our Student Focus programme, an international competition for photography students. The winners were flown to Cannes this year where they battled for the final prize of 45,000 Euros worth of equipment for their university,” Cecily Breese said.

Puan Hajjah Hartini Haji Abdullah hopes that this exhibition will provide a rich sensory experience for visitors of all levels, as well as inspire and encourage Malaysia’s own growing talent of photographers of all genres, to push their boundaries.
