Students Get Hands-On in Business

News Article

picture-696In conjunction with the Global Entrepreneurship Week, students of UCSI University Arts and Science Foundation came together on 26 November 2009, fully equipped with their ingenuity and marketing prowess to organize a monopoly bazaar. Our very own south wing campus multi-purpose hall was flooded with a delighted crowd.

The bazaar was decorated with cheerful color papers and inviting banners to draw in the crowds.picture-703 Each group of students was provided a booth to sell products such as miniature toys, origami, photo frames and many others. The decorations were all based on their creativity. All group members were assigned a post such as promoter and manager. This was where the students learn to delegate jobs and cooperate with one another. In order to purchase the miniature products invented by the students, consumers need to flash their monopoly coupons in exchange. The response received was overwhelming as the students ran out of coupons in which they reproduce immediately to cover the demand. At the end of the day, the students were assessed and evaluated based on coupons received, creativity as well as marketing approach.

picture-732The intention of this monopoly bazaar was to provide a new learning experience for students. Practical and hands-on learning seem to work effectively, as the students were asked to create a real business-like situation where they needed to put on their thinking caps to invent products and persuade customers to purchase.

Undoubtedly, the monopoly bazaar received positive feedback from the crowd. The high demand of monopoly coupons itself said it all. It has certainly boosted the students’ confidence and will make them stand out above the rest in terms of entrepreneurship.
