By Conrad Edmund Bateman Mitch Albom once said that, “The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.” In conjunction with a yearlong celebration of UCSI University’s Silver Jubilee, the

It’s that time of year again for us to exchange gifts and visit friends and family for the last festival before the year ends. As I was doing my last minute Christmas shopping, I came across this incredible poster which attracted me and caused me to take a detour. The movie was a remake of an old Charles Dickens classic – The Christmas Carol.
Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) an old grouch, who hates Christmas and is never one to be festive. He thinks that people waste money by celebrating, he never joins any invitation to parties nor does he donate to the needy during the festive season. It was an unusual Christmas Eve for Scrooge, when he had three uninvited guests visit him that night to ‘teach’ him a valuable lesson. The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future (also played by Jim Carrey) had a scary and creepy image with the help of motion-capture and animation tech

I’ve always loved Jim’s acting and in this movie I can say that again he had given his best in multiple characters. Gary Oldman who played Bob Crachit, the innocent and loyal employee to Scrooge was also commendable. He never complained nor did he hate his employer, even though his family lived in poverty.
Everything about the future is what we make it, and the Christmas Carol shows that nothing can be more powerful than love in this world; happiness is gain by giving and sharing and definitely not with money. Personally, I feel that this movie is a soft reminder to give love and share happiness with others even though we are too busy. Make time for loved ones.
The Christmas Carol is one perfect example of the saying ‘Old is Gold’; I’m glad that director Robert Zemeckis saw the need to do this remake. Famous for his previous animation movies such as The Polar Express, Beowulf and Monster House, this movie was entertaining. With the help of impressive animation created by Malaysian animators Jax Lee and Woei Lee, this classic will definitely bring the crowds to cinemas this festive season.
