Every great artiste deserves a well-earned tribute after his or her passing, what more if the artiste is as universal and influential as Michael J. Jackson.
True to that spirit, UCSI University recently held a MJ Tribute mini concert, organised by School of Social Science and Liberal Arts’ The Hive, featuring some very talented in-house singers and groovers.
The first to start off the show was Wang, one of the UCSI’s Got Talent semi-finalists. His upbeat, guitar-pop rendition of the Jackson 5′s I Want You Back got the crowd on their feet and was the perfect prelude to the rest of the show.
The next performer, Ahmad Nahri, who was also UCSI’s Got Talent’s winner, sang a heart-felt acoustic version of one of Michael’s most famous songs, Heal The World. The song, which was sung with the help of some “chorus” singers, got the crowd singing along as well.
What’s an MJ tribute without Man In The Mirror being sung? Thanks to Benjamin, the audience did not have to worry about that, as he took the popular number and gave it an emotional twist, garnering the loudest applause for the day. The next performer, Iliya Ibrahim, came out and rapped his way right into the audience’s hearts, with his self-penned rap tribute to MJ.
The stage was next commanded by two charismatic female singers, as Jasmine Jacob took on Ben and You Are Not Alone with her powerhouse vocals, while Abigail charmed the audience with her rendition of the Free Willy theme song, Will You Be There.
The finale was done by the whole group where everyone got together and sang the Jackson 5′s I’ll Be There, and their own song named Goodbye. All in all, it was a tribute befitting the King of Pop. R.I.P. Michael Jackson..always missed, always loved.
