If you are a fan of Facebook and log on to this social network day and night, then this is one movie you should watch.
The Social Network is based on the true story of its founder, Mark Zuckerberg who came up with this brilliant idea in the fall of 2003. The idea of creating this social network we call “Facebook” came up when he was sitting in his dorm one night and started creating a fury of blogging and programming which became a huge success in communication.
Six years later with five million friends, Zuckerberg became the youngest billionaire in history. But as they say, success does not come without troubles. In this movie, it shows that “you do not get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies”.
The Social Network gives us an insight into when Facebook was created, through the warring perspective of the young and intelligent men who each claim they were there at its creation. The film shows the movement from the halls of Harvard to the cubicles of Palo Alto to focus on the very early days of a culture changing phenomenon in the making. It created a bond that brought all these creators together and how it also tore them apart.
This movie has some interesting plots and twists to it. But what surprised me the most was that Jesse Eisenberg who was picked to portray Zuckerberg, did not have a Facebook account. He had to create one after being picked for this role to understand it better.
David Fincher who is also known for his other works such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Panic Room and Fight Club did a good job with this movie because of the storyline and choice of actors. The storyline plays loosely with the facts of the Facebook’s founding and the actors played their roles very well in the movie.
This movie has so far received numerous nominations for the 6th Golden Globe Awards including best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay and also best actor. It has also received 9 Critics’ Choice Nominations including best picture and Screen Actors Guild Nominations including best ensemble.
