No matter which era you were born in, the name Michael Jackson will never escape you. In fact, there is no doubt that the King of Pop possesses the power of arcane magic that will not only inspire people to dance like him but to perform on stage with confidence and poise.
Michael Jackson’s music has also united people from all over the globe despite language barriers and skin color. On September 12, 2009, his Malaysian fans came together to perform their best MJ’s moves as a tribute to the late King of Pop at Sungei Wang Plaza Main Concourse: The One dance competition.
A total of 13 young and gifted contestants battled their way to MJ glory where some of them came with a team while others
performed solo. The contestants were able to sweep away the crowd by presenting some of MJ’s signature moves as in the legendary moonwalk and the renowned anti-gravity lean. Contestants gave their best by executing vigorous and lively dance choreography. The dance competition features many of MJ’s best hit songs such as ‘Beat It’, ‘Thriller’, ‘Billie Jean’ and many more.
During the final round, Jordan Sam, the MJ of Asia made an appearance and showed some of his best moves to the crowd’s delight. His guest appearance was also to promote his latest concert at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands.
Our very own UCSI University student Orange Wong Shee Yee, 21 from the Mass Communication Department was one of the participants in the competition alongside her teammates, Rhythm Music which won the first runner-up title despite the presence of competent rivals and demanding judges. Meanwhile, the second runner-up title went to a boy team, Project Elementz and the winner was Darshan, a solo performer.
It was certainly an awe-inspiring dance competition and it serves a great purpose as a commemoration to the King of Pop whom we will always adore, the celebrated Michael Jackson.
