UCSI University Welcome Ceremony for Fresh students

UCSI University’s Student Affairs committee organized a fun-filled and colourful welcome ceremony to conduct freshmen students from all around the world to the university before the September semester took off. The two-day event was held at the Multi-Purpose Hall attended by the new students and their parents.

The event was organized to brief the fresh students and their parents on the university’s policy, rules and regulations, financial policy, course selection and also what they should expect while they are studying here at UCSI University.

“The orientation is for new students and parents,” said Lee Hooi See, Assistant Manager for campus activities and communication. “The events lined up include the briefing for new students, games to break the ice and make students feel comfortable and also to teach them how to do course selection, amongst other things.”

The event had in store two segments the general briefing and the faculty briefing by-various faculties intended to introduce the students to the faculties and various programs.

“The faculty briefing is basically to help the students do their course selection and also to welcome them to the faculty,” said Mr. Ken Choong, representative of the Mass Communication program.

At the School of Social Science and Liberal Arts briefing, new students were seen filling up course selection forms and interacting with the various representatives of different programmes under the faculty.

“We are properly briefed on the course selection process by the lecturers,” said Shivonne Prevena, an incoming Mass Communication student. “And we are satisfied with our selected courses”.

The excitement was just as high at the School of Management and IT faculty briefing. The lecturers were seen going round assisting new students fill up their course selection forms.

“I feel properly briefed as they did their part well. It is easy for one to understand what type of subjects to choose,” said Baletji Chabaya, a new accounting and finance student from Botswana.

Another student at the same faculty, Zhang Xiao Xue said, “At first I was confused because the whole process was new to me, but the briefing has really helped me better understand the course selection process thanks to the faculty briefing.”
